Did the population of Australia decrease during WW1? Why?
The population of Australia decreased somewhat during WW1 because according to Australian Bureau of Statistics; Australia had an estimated population (in 1914) close to 5 million and after the war just over 60 000 Australians died. The mood and conditions during that time contributed to disruption of population growth. The war had impacted Australia politically, socially and economically. All factors that impacted on population growth, according to ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) website there were more deaths occurring during this period rather than births. It wasn't till after the war when Australia began to accept migrants into the country, did it see a population growth.
